Corporate SA buys in to Earth Hour
Earth Hour, scheduled for 8.30-9.30pm on Saturday 26 March 2011, is gaining support from corporate South Africa as Nedbank, Sandton City and Morningside Shopping Centre offer their support through switch offs and prizes.
Morningside Shopping Centre will switch off all external logo lighting on the building façade as well as encourage all restaurants to operate by candlelight for the hour and Sandton City will switch off its tower cap.
Nedbank is offering solar powered lamps to the best pledge submitted via email to az.oc.knabden@neergknabden. Submissions can include pictures, videos or even just tell a story of what you are going to do for Earth Hour. This year the bank is encouraging everyone to take Earth Hour "Beyond the Hour" by making a personal difference in their home, workspace and even their own community after the lights go out.
In 2010, millions of people in cities throughout the world participated in Earth Hour. Some of the world's most famous man-made marvels and natural wonders, including Table Mountain, the Eiffel Tower, the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Brazil's Christ the Redeemer statue, the Empire State Building and many more global icons stood in darkness as a powerful symbol of landmark environmental action.
