In the spirit of Madiba Day, the renovations started at the centre on 18 July 2016 where the donation resulted in electrical and plumbing repairs, as well as repairing of the balustrades. The haven also received new bunk beds, linen, curtains as well as stoves and a range of other small items, to finish off the centre the Clover Mama Afrika way.

On 22 July, Mama Mirriam Toni shared the day with the people that made it all happen: the Clover Mama Afrika team, Joelle Berry, Prof Elain Vlok and Ilze Fourie Rugununan, Mariette Myburgh and Helen de Beer of MiX Telematics, fellow Clover Mamas, Selestien Moses and Daphne Oliphant, as well as some people of the Mbekweni community.

“I am a strong woman, I have always been a strong woman, but with the skills and support I receive from Clover Mama Afrika, I am even stronger today. All I do is from the heart for my community, so that I can provide them the opportunities that have been afforded to me. I am blessed and grateful to MiX Telematics for their support and for the Clover Mama Afrika team led by Prof Elain who has transformed my centre. I am very proud,” says Toni.

“We are proud to again be able to support Mama Mirriam through this renovation and certainly believe that her commitment to the Clover Mama Afrika programme – over the past five years – is starting to show real results for her and her community. She is a true leader and consistently meets all the Clover mama Afrika objectives,” concludes Professor Elain Vlok, manager for Clover’s corporate services and founder of Clover Mama Afrika.
