'Misconduct' deepens port boss suspension

Transnet National Ports Authority insiders said Goosen, who is also heading a task team co-ordinating the R3,9-billion Port of Ngqura project, was suspended indefinitely on Friday.

Goosen, who moved to Port Elizabeth from Johannesburg in 1986 and was appointed port manager in 2003, has been a Transnet employee for more than 25 years.

Although insiders confirmed her suspension, The Herald contacted her office numerous times and was told that the city‘s first female port manager “is on leave”.

Further inquiries were referred to Transnet spokesman John Dludlu, who confirmed the suspension of a “senior executive”.

“Information in our possession has revealed allegations of misconduct in the Port of Port Elizabeth,” he said.

“To enable a much more thorough probe, we have suspended one of our senior executives at the port.”
