Mugg & Bean gas explosion probe on-going: CEO
Mugg & Bean is part of JSE-listed quick-service restaurant franchise group Famous Brands.
The gas explosion, which occurred last week Thursday and left the restaurant badly damaged, also saw three staff members seriously injured.
"The investigation commenced immediately after the incident and continues unabated. Inevitably an investigation of this nature will take time, given that there are four parties preparing independent reports, namely the department of the Fire Chief, Afrox, the supplier of gas to the mall, the insurance company, and Famous Brands itself," Hedderwick said.
The company confirmed that while the three workers hospitalised after the explosion remained in intensive care, they were "off the danger list" and continued to receive the best possible rehabilitative treatment at Arwyp Hospital in Kempton Park.
Mugg & Bean is a coffee-themed restaurant franchise chain, which was founded in 1996 by Ben Filmalter, one of SA's most prominent restaurateurs and a founding member of the South African Restaurant Association.
Other restaurants in Famous Brands' portfolio include, Steers, Wimpy, Debonairs Pizza, FishAways, Tashas, House of Coffees, Brazilian Cafe and Blacksteer.
