Largely elegant boutique opens in Sandton

The GG Boutique, serving women sized 38-48, has opened at the shopping emporium of Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel, in Sandton. It carries 40 international plus-size designer labels, including Jones New York, Tahari, Liz Elana, Le Suit and Nippon Boutique, as well as GG's own in-house label.

Its founder, Dr Gugulethu Gule, recognised the gap in the fashion market for a retailer that served the style needs of affluent, fuller-figured women. The fashion industry traditionally focuses on slender, idealistic models despite the fact that plus-size women have the purchasing power to support their desire to look beautiful and stylish.

Striving to change perceptions

"GG Boutique strives to change the perception that plus-sized women cannot look as sexy or contemporary as their thinner counterparts," explains Dr Gule.

The exclusive, well-tailored and stylish product selection includes corporate, casual and formal wear, a collection of designer shoes up to size 9, handbags and exquisite jewellery. In addition, customers are encouraged to make use of GG Boutique's value added services, which include image consulting, wardrobe planning, alterations and personal shopping.

"The response has been phenomenal. The next objective for the company is to open branches in Durban, Cape Town and Mbabane (Swaziland) so that curvy women all over Southern Africa will have access to high-end fashion," concludes Dr Gule.
