Shops stock up for World Cup
Clicks is stocking up on an additional R20-million worth of sun-care products for June and July to ensure fair-skinned visitors are taken care of.
It normally stocks a minimum of sun-block products in winter.
Clicks has also ordered double the normal amount of headache tablets, painkillers, energy supplements and energy syrup.
Clicks managing director Mike Harvey said shops close to stadiums would have longer working hours, "available with headache tablets and the like".
No additional ear-plugs have been ordered. "We aren't anticipating people trying to block out the sound of the vuvuzela," Harvey said.
Game has stocked 10 000 folding chairs and additional winter blankets, and it expects to sell 2000 seat pads.
There has been unprecedented demand for wing-mirror covers and car flags. Sales of patio furniture and braais have increased by 30%. Makro and Game are stocking up on gaming and entertainment goods, given the extended school holidays.
Beer sales are growing ahead of other liquor products such as spirits and wines.
