Treasure Chest Lingerie was started in Cape Town only a few months ago by Jax Parsons, a woman who had seen the need for underwear to fit her fuller figured family. It was launched in Port Elizabeth in April this year, with Marina Doms the Eastern Cape manager for the brand.

The demand has been so good, says Doms, that Parsons is bringing out a range of sports bras and swimming costumes before Christmas, and there are plans for maternity and feeding bras as well as bras for mastectomy patients. Each bra can be bought with a matching pantie or thong underwear.

“We have bras to celebrate the curves of women from a 34D up to 42J,” said Doms. “Most women are wearing the incorrect bra size and 60% of women wearing a C cup should be wearing a D cup. South Africa, along with England, has the biggest breasted women in the world!”

For those used to seeing only cup sizes A to D in the chain stores, she says the availability of larger cups is quite a boon: “34G, for example, is quite a popular size.”

The right bra can work wonders on streamlining your silhouette, saysDoms, along with lifting your bust, as it will “also give you more of a waist”.

The mother of two pre-school girls, Doms is a former Honey Jewellery team leader who loves the flexibility of being able to work from home.

She will do personal fitting and measuring in your home, to help shy clients.

“Most of these women are embarrassed to go into a store to be measured and find buying bras a nightmare.

“Our lingerie is manufactured specially for us and if I don't have your size I can place an order and it will only take five to seven days to arrive.

“It's really important to look after your breasts so our bras 'lift and shape' - it's all about the construction and support.

“Out motto is 'keeping the headlights on the road, not looking for rabbits in the bushes'!”

Treasure Chest lingerie is available directly from Doms and is also on sale at Body Fashions in Port Elizabeth and Kingorns in East London. Doms also has agents in Uitenhage and Grahamstown.
