Multi-platform production house launches in Cape Town
The team consists of '20-something-year-olds' Tracy-Lee Rosslind (creative director), Clint Jacobs (new media development) and Grant McPherson (MD), alongside mentor and COO Kurt Egelhof, the former manager and producer of such local hits as Isidingo, Generations, and Backstage.
Energy
"I saw an opportunity for the energy of these individuals to evolve into a fresh new production house," says Egelhof. "We have the basic ingredients to make an impact on the production market."
These basic ingredients, according to Egelhof, include naivety, which protects them from a jaded market often overloaded with repetitive, low-quality productions. Egelhof himself adds decades of experience and skill-sharing to the blend.
Girls at Play.tv, the brainchild of Rosslind, is meant to connect its target audience (young women 18-34) with the lifestyles and escapades of its glamorous presenters, artists, models, and producers. The intention is for viewers to be intrigued, entertained, and inspired as the show draws them into an interactive multimedia experience, scheduled to be broadcast online via Facebook, mobile and web radio/TV platforms.
Focus on the youth
"The focus in South Africa is the youth, and our future is in entrepreneurship. We all want to start a business, but most will not succeed because of the lack of experience," says McPherson, who has a marketing background and was part of the founding team behind a large and successful NGO. "We have all our bases covered."
