LoveLife competition to find filmmakers

With funding from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), loveLife is staging a competition to find potential filmmakers that will end with four winners from each province creating documentaries on South Africa and its diverse people. The competition closes on 17 July 2010.

Aimed at young people (under the age of 25) who have not had the opportunity to attend film school, the winners will attend a workshop in August, where they will develop their filmmaking skills through working on the concepts they put forward in their original entry packs.

The production of their documentaries will take place between September and December 2010 and the winning documentaries will be screened at a mini film festival in March 2011 at sites across the country.

The budding filmmakers will then be linked to professionals in the industry and ultimately exposed to jobs where they can perfect their newfound creative skills.

Entrants need to do is write a covering letter motivating why they should be selected, a one-to-three page synopsis of their concept, as well as a two-page document on the treatment of their potential documentary. These items need to be submitted along with a copy of their CV and ID document to Born Free Media, PO Box 291393, Melville, 2109 or e-mailed to az.oc.aidemeerfnrob@ofni.
