Young KWV wines show the season's potential
The eight participating wine regions of Robertson, Worcester, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Oranje-Vaal, Olifants River, Swartland and the Little Karoo presented their offerings at the annual SA Young Wine Show, showcasing the coming season's potential.
Only three gold medals were awarded in the Sauvignon Blanc category, one of which was scooped by KWV, a second consecutive gold winner in its category. The Paarl Trophy for Champion Merlot was awarded to KWV, in addition to this varietal having received a gold medal. Gold medals were also awarded to KWV's Shiraz and Pinotage wines, with the latter further achieving a best accolade in its class. These gold medal winners, together with the Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot winners, are destined for KWV's premium range of wines.
"The Young Wine Show is an early indication of the season, quality and winemaker's approach and given the success in this year's competition we are very upbeat that our 2010 wines will be as successful in various domestic and international wine competitions," said KWV's chief winemaker, Richard Rowe.
