Fair Cape breaks world record
Fair Cape Dairies is hopeful that it has broken the Guinness World Record for the biggest tub of yoghurt in Canal Walk's Centre Court in Cape Town over the weekend with an enormous 500l tub of its Rooibos yoghurt. The current record was set in Germany in 1998 and contained 100l of strawberry yoghurt. Guinness World Records supplied strict guidelines that had to be adhered to for a successful new record and all evidence was sent to Guinness World Records headquarters in London for verification.

The day included an exciting programme starring, amongst others, 2009 Idols winner Sasha-Lee Davids. Lucky prize draws also took take place and all donations made by the public were handed over to The Canal Walk Foundation and Reach for a Dream live on stage. In exchange for a donation of any value, members of the public could savour a cup of this yoghurt filled from the giant yoghurt tub.
Design challenge
According to Fair Cape's commercial manager, Joel Serman, one of the challenges was designing a tub that had to be specially manufactured for this project. “The tub had to contain 500 litres of yoghurt that could be easily distributed to the public afterwards. The massive tub resembles our standard one-litre Rooibos yoghurt, containing all the same ingredients and goodness, but on a much larger scale. The dedicated team behind the scenes planned the record attempt for months and calculated all the elements involved meticulously in order to produce the giant yoghurt,” concludes Serman.
CANSA Smart Choice product
The company's Rooibos yoghurts are also reputedly the first yoghurts to carry the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) Smart Choice emblem. Research has shown that drinking six cups of Rooibos tea a day significantly increases natural cancer-fighting chemicals within the body and it is reasoned that if Rooibos helps to reduce the risk of cancer, then more than one route of intake is a good idea, ie tea and its unique yoghurt.
