Globe swap campaign brings power to the people
From 18 September 2008, for every incandescent light bulb that customers bring in to a Game store, they will receive a R17 discount voucher for a 15W Eurolux/Eskom/Game branded CFL energy-saving bulb. This means they effectively pay R5 for the new globe.
"Eskom's energy efficient lighting programme consists of a multi-pronged strategy including door-to-door and retail exchange programme components. The retail exchange programme enables the public to take the initiative and join the savings drive," said Eskom general manager, Andrew Etzinger.
Jan Potgieter, managing director of Game, said, "This partnership will make it easy for people to play their part in reducing electricity consumption at home. At the same time they will be helping to lessen the effect of energy use on the environment and conserve the country's energy resources."
There is a limit of 10 globes per customer to give everyone a chance to benefit from the campaign, which will continue at each Game store until their stocks run out. Proof of ID is required for auditing purposes.
"CFLs, or compact fluorescent lamps, use less energy, create five times as much light per Watt and last up to six times longer than ordinary bulbs," Etzinger said. "The amount of energy needed to provide lighting in a house can be cut by 80% simply by switching the globes."
