First Terra Madre day in South Africa

The first worldwide Terra Madre day, to celebrate locally produced food that is good, clean and fair, will be held internationally on Thursday 10 December 2009. The event is organised by Slow Food, a 20-year-old organisation started in opposition to mass-produced fast food.

“Slow Food is good, clean and fair food. We believe that the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work,” says a Slow Food spokesperson.

Johannesburg will celebrate this day at the Cheese Gourmet, 71 7th St Linden Johannesburg all day and entrance is free. The event is organised by Andrew Adrian, of the Slow Food Movement Convivium in Johannesburg.
