Mango partners with HIV&Me

Low cost airline Mango this week announced its partnership with NGO Regency's HIV education programme, HIV&Me. The programme, which focuses on prevention and education, reaches out to schools nationally with learner and teacher interventions to encourage young people to make informed choices about their health and sexual behaviour.

"Prevention remains the only cure," says Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout who has committed the airline's resources to assist in the fight against the epidemic. "South Africa remains one of the worst affected countries in the world and at this time behavioural changes are the only real tools in society's arsenal."

HIV&Me is a national schools-based HIV/AIDS education and prevention program; targeting learners between the ages of 12 to 15. The program aims to provide educational tools and materials that integrate scientific and social aspects of the epidemic and encourage learners' active participation in the process. The program also aims to address the challenges teachers face in addressing HIV/AIDS in their classrooms.

"Our commitment to South Africa is not only to deliver affordable travel," says Bezuidenhout, "but where possible to also make a positive contribution to society."
