Often, funds for food crises are driven by media coverage and, as a result, can be too little too late. Most donors also tie their donations to conditions, reducing flexibility for those who deliver aid on the ground. And sometimes food aid is designed to benefit donor countries more than those in need.
This editorial in The Lancet suggests that food aid needs reform.
