2026 Principal’s Concert featuring The Gold Rhino of Mapungubwe – The Ballet
The Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria (UP), Professor Francis Petersen, invites you to our 2026 Principal’s Concert, which, for the first time, will benefit UP’s Degrees Delivered campaign that helps deserving graduates access their degree certificates by raising funds to settle historical student debt.
This year’s Principal’s Concert presents a magical new staging of The Gold Rhino of Mapungubwe – The Ballet in collaboration with Mzansi Ballet. The production features Mzansi Ballet dancers, international guest artists, 120 student choristers from Tuks Camerata and the UP Ovuwa Cultural Ensemble, and the UP Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr Schalk van der Merwe.
Few stories resonate more deeply with UP than that of Mapungubwe. As custodian of the internationally recognised Mapungubwe Collection and Archive, the University plays an important role in preserving and sharing the legacy of one of Africa’s earliest kingdoms.
All proceeds from tickets and merchandise will go towards the degrees delivered campaign.
