MTN CEO Ralph Mupita re-elected to global mobile industry board

The 26-member board brings together senior representatives from mobile operators around the world and provides strategic direction to the GSMA, the industry body representing the global mobile ecosystem.
Mupita first joined the board for the 2025–2026 term and has served as deputy chair since April 2025. His new term will run from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2028.
Mupita said his continued appointment comes as artificial intelligence begins to reshape the mobile industry while large parts of Africa and the wider Global South remain offline.
“Mobile remains the most powerful means we have of widening access to opportunity, and our task is to ensure that its benefits, and those of AI, reach everyone,” he said.
During the new term, Mupita is expected to continue focusing on Africa's mobile industry, including efforts to close usage and coverage gaps, increase investment and support a more climate-resilient sector.
Mupita has been MTN Group president and CEO since September 2020, having previously served as the group's chief financial officer.
The new GSMA Board takes office on 1 January 2027.
