Grow forth H&M is the latest to join the queue of European brands looking for retail space on South African shores. Woolies, too, is expanding its Aussie-bred brands, Country Road and Trenery, as it sizes up another 18 local sites. Patrick Nebuloni discusses the franchisor's role in helping a franchisee set up an outlet, and Ian Steyn advises retailers to enhance their POS systems in order to keep up with the growing number of value-added services and customer expectation. In research, the latest Roots survey shows that townships are key for brand growth; the new 440ml can has shown to be worth its weight in sales, while the sports drink market is getting a boost from aggressive marketing.
