Simonsberg full moon dinner
Simonsberg hosted a full moon dinner at Cassia Restaurant on Nitida Wine farm. It was all moonshine and roses, in line with the evening's theme ‘Indulge in the good life,' and food alchemist Peter Goffe–Wood conjuring up a moonstruck menu with Simonsberg cheese.
The guest list included food personalities Abigail Donnelly, Phillippa Cheifitz, Justine Drake, Vickie De Beer, Barbara and Emile Joubert and Sumien Brink. Guiding the guests in the moon's transformation was astronomer Willie Koorts from the South African Astronomical Observatory. An expert on the moon and the milky way he talked about the eclipse of the moon, lunar cycles and Khoisan folklore.
Chef Peter Goffe-Wood's six course menu included: watermelon, feta and garam masala served with Monis fino; Camembert fondue and grissini with Nitida Semillon 06; Chicory, avocado, pink grapefruit, spiced pecans and Simonzola dressing with De Grendel Rosé 07; Mature Gouda ravioli, puy lentil and apple salsa served with James Mitchell's gone fishing barrel fermented cider; followed by a witty take on Mature Cheddar burger (with Nitida Pinotage 05) and finishing with Creamy Blue, fennel and sherry syrup with Vin d' Constance 02.
