Gateway expands presence in Southern Africa

JOHANNESBURG: Gateway Communications, supplier of pan-African telecommunications services, has expanded its delivery of restored and non-restored IP (Internet Protocol) transit services to licensed African operators. Gateway Communications has partnered with Teraco, a provider of neutral data centres in Southern Africa to facilitate this expansion.

"Gateway Communications offers local IP peering in most African countries, with a long-term strategy to continue to route data traffic more efficiently within Africa," says Phil Braden, chief operations officer, Gateway Communications. "We can now offer peering in Southern Africa joining Malawi, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia."

Partnering with Teraco enables Gateway Communications to interconnect with more African carriers and ISPs, providing them with voice, data and value added services (VAS) at a more competitive price. Last month Gateway engaged with a number of South African ISPs requiring IP transit capacity, providing services from its Teraco Johannesburg and Cape Town PoPs (Points of Presence).
