Nigeria: New host venue for WAfriTel

The 2010 West African Telecoms (WAfriTel) exhibition and conference will this year co-host the Nigeria ICT Business Solutions Expo (NISE) as well as the West Africa ICT (WAFICT) Congress from 1 to 3 June 2010 at a new US$44 million venue in Lagos, Nigeria. The annual event is organised by South African-based Exhibition Management Services (EMS).
Nigeria: New host venue for WAfriTel

The new venue consists of 8000m2 floor space, which is substantially larger than the 1370m2 previously available for WAfriTel in 2009 and can accommodate up to 2000 visitors.

Nigeria has an average annual growth rate of 125% in 2008/2009 and over 70 million active subscribers recorded by year-end 2009 for mobile and landline subscriptions. The telecommunications sector contributed 3.5% to the GDP in 2009.

Says EMS managing director, John Thomson, “Feedback from previous years has always been very positive and the 2010 exhibition and conference promises to exceed expectations. Visitors to the exhibition will include a wide variety of industries, ranging from banking, manufacturing and building to oil and gas. This, combined with the larger venue, provides a platform for the integration of NISE and the WAFICT congress with the WAfriTel exhibition. Although there has always been an ICT component to the WAfriTel exhibition, this will be the first time that it will be incorporated into the same venue, running alongside each other. This will allow exhibitors to present their solutions either in stand-alone mode or integrated.”

According to David Ibhawoh, business development manager for Intel West Africa, the merger of these events creates additional marketing opportunities. “Information and communication technologies are of fundamental importance for the 21st century and every business striving for success should utilise the most up-to-date solutions. Nigeria is ready for the digital world.”
