Tanzania: Sun-Flag closes factory
The move will displace around 2000 workers, some of whom have now been shifted to the company's other factory which is located in Themi-Njiro while others are likely to be laid off. Sources from the company said the premises at the Unga Limited plant would now serve as storage warehouses for the company.
A recent visit to the Unga-Limited factory revealed a few remaining workers carrying out limited production and some of them told this paper that their counterparts were already taken to the Themi Hill plant, the largest of the two, where they are to resume work.
The factory's operations manager, Vincent Mchaina confirmed the gradual closure but added that the fate of both the Unga-Limited plant and its 1500 workers depended on the market situation.
