According to the orgaisers, next year's event will increase in size, with a larger venue to accommodate an expected 700 attendees. DevConf 2017, to be staged at Vodaworld in Midrand on 9 March 2017, will feature more talks across five tracks. With 168 speaker proposals from 15 countries, DevConf plans to present insightful and useful talks based on the hottest trends. Keywords such as Git, C#, Java, Neo4J, refactoring, NoSQL, Ansible will be in evidence.

Tracks will focus on Crafting Code, Persistence & Data, DevOps & Automation, Tools & Frameworks and Teams & People, with deep dives into the latest technology trends, including the future of AR, VR and drones, says co-organiser Robert MacLean. “The aim of the conference is to provide local software developers a buffet of tools, practices and principles applicable to tackling current challenges in the South African software development environment,” he says.

DevConf grew out of the Developer User Group forum and monthly meetings coordinated by MacLean, Candice Mesk, Terence Kruger, Mark Pearl and others – all veteran developers themselves. With over 2,000 members in the user group, MacLean and Pearl identified among them a need for a major technical conference for software developers, database-focused professionals, software deployment teams, team leads and solution architects.

Current sponsors include BBD, DVT, Offerzen and more to be announced shortly, with a limited number of sponsorship opportunities still available.

Registrations are now open for DevConf 2017, with a special Early Bird discount available for the first 150 people to register. The one-day event is designed specifically for professional software developers who work in mid- to large-sized organisations and who develop systems of all sizes.
