The plant is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2013.
The TCS is a concept pioneered by Megatron Federal. It is a fully containerised solution which houses the L.V main breakers, a step-up transformer, M.V switchgear and internal distribution board. The unit is connected after the 84 Sunny Central CP XT Inverters supplied by SMA Solar Technology AG and connects to the grid. The lockable enclosure features natural cooling, a tropical roof and an internal anti-leakage pit for transformer oil to prevent environmental contamination should a failure occur as well as an auxiliary filter for the transformer distribution systems.
The system is manufactured at Megatron Federal's ISO-certified premises in Kempton Park and features locally-sourced equipment through Megatron Federal's own production lines.
Designed in-house with a desire to provide a simple, secure, rapid-deployment solution suitable for the African market, Megatron Federal's TCS is an elegant, efficient proposition for developers of renewable energy generation plants. The system can be customised according to requirement and is suitable for use with solar, wind, small hydro and diesel generation plants.
SMA Solar Technology AG recently announced the expansion of its presence in the important future market of South Africa. In addition to strengthening the already existing sales and service structures, SMA will set up a Sunny Central inverter production locally.
Scatec Solar has been awarded a further two solar power plants, Dreunberg in the Eastern Cape province and Linde in the Northern Cape province under the second round of South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Program (REIPPP).
