En-tree-preneurs aim to grow a million trees from seed
Grow A Tree, an innovative young South African social enterprise, has announced their plans to grow a million indigenous trees from seed.
Grow A Tree has already produced and distributed over 40 000 Grow A Tree Baby Starter Packs to corporate, retail and individual customers. The packs provide everything needed to grow your own indigenous South African tree from a seed. There are also over 3 000 indigenous tree seedlings growing currently on-site, through the Sponsor a Tree programme.
"Our dream is to grow a million trees from seed so that we can develop the next generation of 'en-tree-preneurs'," says Grow A Tree founder Sean Hide. This September Grow A Tree is running workshops in over ten events across Gauteng reaching thousands of learners.
Hide started Grow A Tree in 2008, inspired by the dream that all South African children should learn to grow a tree from seed. "By growing trees from seed, children develop a close connection with the trees and invest in our planet's future. These trees will grow up with the children and continue growing their whole lives. That is a special type of investment, one that keeps on growing." He is on the way to making this a reality too, having worked with over 4 000 underprivileged school children in 40 different schools.
