#Loeries2016: Loeries rankings with Left

Just when you thought the Loeries buzz was over, the Loeries rankings are in! I chatted to some of this year's top ranked creatives post-celebrations. Here, Keno Naidoo and Evy Katz of Left Post Production kick things off.

It’s the agencies that take the stage at the Loerie Awards, but the production and editing companies are responsible for much of the work that gets those accolades.

Take Left Post Production as example. They came out on top of both the TV, film and radio: editing company and TV, film and radio: post-production 2016 tables.

That’s little wonder with the likes of Evy Katz awarded the number one editor in the Loeries’ ranking this year who joined Left four years ago (after starting Humanoid which was bought out by Egg Films) as well as Keno Naidoo as the VFX Flame artiste on most of Left’s award-winning work, who has been with Left since its inception 10 years ago.

While they don’t have evidence of the “bird in their claws”, they do have the words to describe how they feel about their wins, plans to extend their winning streak next year and who they admire most in the industry. Naidoo and Katz weigh in below along with Left’s executive producer and partner, Jacqui Pearson…

1. Share your top three emotions linked to your Loeries wins and 2016 rankings.

Katz and Naidoo: We’re both excited, surprised and grateful.

2. How do you plan on keeping – if not bettering – your rankings next year?

Katz and Naidoo: We plan to continue honing our craft by doing cool work with cool people.

3. How does this year’s Loeries flock differ from your haul last year?

Katz and Naidoo: The flock is bigger this year, as out of the six top awards in our category we won four!

4. Tell us who you personally admire in the industry – both an established mentor figure as well as a newcomer making waves.

Naidoo I’ve never really thought it through. I get to work with the country’s top talented creatives and every experience teaches me something new, for that I love what I do.

Katz: I admire the established, talented and multi-award winning editor and partner of Left Saki Bergh, also featuring in this year’s top ranked editor table, as well as brassy newcomer Finn Bergh… Saki’s four-year-old son.

Pearson: My first mentor in the industry John Hunt said, “Surround yourself with the right people and the rest will follow”, and that’s Left!

Looking forward to seeing what 2017 holds! Click through to our Loeries special section for more and be sure to follow Left on Twitter.
