Regiments Capital invests R600 000 to upgrade Langa Library
While the investment is the brainchild of Regiments Capital's Litha Nyhonyha, who grew up in Langa and attended the University of Cape Town, it also forms an integral party of Regiments Capital's corporate social investment programme.
"The Langa Library was established in the 1950s and has played a vital role in educating, enlightening and entertaining people in the Langa community for many decades," said Nyhonhya. "In conjunction with the City of Cape Town's Smart Cape Access Project, we as a group decided to assist the library with an important upgrade of its materials and facilities so that it can continue to play a crucial role in the community for many years to come." Significantly, the Langa Library has five high schools, seven primary schools, several creches and an old age home in its catchment area, as well of thousands of residents and other nearby communities.
More significant socio-economic impact
Through the investment that has been made by Regiments Capital, the library will have an increased ability to meet the educational, informational, recreational and cultural needs of the broader Langa community. It will also provide increased computer literacy and information skills and attract greater usage of the library through greater membership and increased utilisation of electronic services.
According to Nyhonyha, Regiments Capital's investment in the library is aimed at helping it to address its shortcoming and facilitate the provision of additional and enhanced services so that the library can have more significant socio-economic impact on the surrounding community.
"As a group totally focused on providing financial advisory solutions for the public and private sector, we fully understand the importance of developing a knowledge-based economy from grass roots levels. Institutions such as the Langa Library play a critical role in achieving this in communities around the country," Nyhonyha added. "We see our involvement with the Langa Library as a great privilege and an opportunity to sew something very meaningful into the community that can have long-lasting benefits for current and future generations."
