Van Rensburg, who has been acting since April 2011, is a prosecutor by profession, grew up within the legal fraternity ranks and has held various management positions as early as 1997. These include a Senior Public Prosecutor in Kempton Park, Boksburg and Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Courts.

At the establishment of the NPA, she was nominated by the Director of Public Prosecutions at the time to participate in the national team that was responsible for the development of the first Prosecution Policy Directives for the NPA. She has been an advisor to the NPA on Enterprise Performance Management for a number of years," NPA spokesperson Kholiswa Mdhluli said.
