Eskom wants clarity on new power stations
According to the Business Day report, Dames says that unless these decisions are made, the commissioning of baseload capacity from coal or nuclear plants could be delayed and could jeopardise the country's ability to meet its future electricity demand. The baseload capacity is the power that a generation plant can produce constantly without serious fluctuations.
Dames says the 2008 electricity crisis was a result of policy blunders from government that stopped Eskom from investing in new capacity. He says that because of these policy blunders, Eskom has had to juggle the number of power generation projects it has to ensure sufficient electricity could be supplied to South African consumers, Business Day reports.
