Electric cars discounted this Black Friday on AutoTrader
It's Black Friday and the motor industry is, once again, offering unprecedented deals on used cars. This year, even an electric vehicle (EV) appears on the list in the form of a low mileage 2021 Jaguar I-Pace EV400 AWD SE with R90,000 shaved off its price.
According to AutoTrader CEO George Mienie, the debut of an EV on the 2021 AutoTrader Black Friday site demonstrates the growing importance of these vehicles within the South African motor industry. “This is indicative of the growth in EV adoption. Yes, we’re still only in the starting blocks as an EV market. But our research reveals a strong – and growing – demand for these vehicles, which really do represent the future of the automotive industry,” he notes.
The I-Pace is but one of a long list of cars. “The deals on offer on AutoTrader are worth over R660m in retail value,” reveals Mienie. While the average saving is R28,580 per car, some cars come with half a million Rand shaved off the price, such as the 2013 Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase. This luxury limousine comes with every imaginable bell and whistle and is powered by a 6.7l V12 motor that propels the Roller from standstill to 100km/h in a mere 6.1 seconds and then onto a top speed of 240km/h. This is a sought-after collector’s car with 7,000km on the clock.
It’s not only luxury cars such as the Rolls-Royce that are on sale. One of the most loved cars in the South African used vehicle market is the Ford Ranger. In fact, in 2020, it was the most sold used car in South Africa2. Not surprisingly, it is also the most listed model on AutoTrader during Black Friday – shoppers will save an average of R29,760 on their purchase. But for anyone in the market to buy a 2020 Ford Ranger 3.2TDCi Double Cab Hi-Rider XLT Auto, a saving of R270,700 can be found - the model was discounted from R699,700 to R429,000.
