Call to Gauteng music makers

Music Industry Online, together with the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, is calling all Gauteng-based talented music makers to compose one piece of music that a Gauteng resident can easily relate to, for a competition that will run between 15 March to 15 April, 2010.
Call to Gauteng music makers

It is time to put together a song that best describes the fast pace, the townships, the urban lifestyle, the mix of traditions, the old and new Gauteng, and all the elements that have played a role in building the province.

The Gauteng Songs Competition is an initiative aimed at giving Gauteng-based music makers, known and unknown, a platform to prove how well they know their province musically.

Open to everyone

There is no age- or music-genre restriction in the Gauteng Songs competition. It is open to everyone in Gauteng Province who is talented enough to showcase their musical skills. Whether it's jazz, rock, kwaito, RnB, blues, house, opera, choir, afro-pop, gospel or African; whatever you choose to call it, we will be your listener. Any style of music is allowed as long as your composition can tell the diverse musical stories of Gauteng.

Ten winning songs packaged

The competition runs from 15 March to 15 April, and winners will be announced on 29 April, 2010. After the winners are announced, the top three will fly to Cape Town where they will spend two days at the Red Bull Music Studios recording the "Three Winners' Collaboration". Finally, 10 winning songs will then be packaged in CD format, which will be placed at venues where those attending the 2010 FIFA World Cup are expected to visit. The project will also be distributed to all SA radio stations for possible play-listing and also made available on Exact Mobile for online and mobile sale. There are also money prizes and you will own the rights for your music.

You can enter the competition online at www.mio.co.za or by posting your entry or delivering it to Music Industry Online offices.
