Rocktoberfest announces headline act
ROCKTOBERFEST, a music festival taking place over the first weekend of October, has announced its headline act: Springbok Nude Girls.
After a five-year hiatus Arno Carstens, Francois Kruger, Theo Crous, Arno Blumer and Adriaan Brand regrouped in 2006 to add two more albums to SNG’s 11-piece discography. The group went on to open for U2 on their South African tour in 2011 and has performed sold-out shows all over the country.
“The Nude Girls represent a timeless age of South African rock. Their music conjures memories of the previous two decades and having them on stage with modern rock groups unifies the timeline of SA rock. To me, they are the epitome of our local rock culture,” says Mike Crawford of The Quarry.
The rest of the lineup includes Southern Wild, Kiss the Sky, Pebbleman and McCree – each of which have made their mark on the local rock circuit. After the main act, a classic rock DJ will bring the festivities to a close, playing classic numbers on vinyl records.
“I just adore rock and I felt that the country needed another platform to showcase the unsurpassed talent of our country’s musicians,” Crawford said. “All the bands chosen for the festival have already made an invaluable contribution to the industry and they deserve the recognition.”
