Get "shaved or sprayed" this weekend

The annual CANSA Shavathon is one of South Africa's best-loved events in support of a very worthy cause - showing solidarity with those affected by cancer. Losing one's hair is a common side effect of cancer therapy - so shaving your head has become a symbolic gesture of support for cancer survivors.

Shoppers will get the chance to shave their heads, colour their hair or pay a bail out fee at any of the participating shopping centres countrywide this Saturday, 1 March from 9am - 3pm in support of the 11th year of this event, which will be independently managed by CANSA staff and volunteers.

At only R50 for adults and R25 for kids under 12, the options are endless - shave, spray, stencil or do all three. All funds raised will go towards providing CANSA's unique integrated service to the public and all affected by Cancer, including research, care and support, Cancer screenings, education and assistance.

Thanks to previous donations, from 2012 and 2013, CANSA has supported almost 7493 Cancer patients through their 110 support groups and 2950 trained care and support volunteers.

For those with hair 22cm or longer, that is clean and free of chemical treatments, their hair will be kept aside to be used as wigs for those who need it.

CANSA Shavathon is being held in workplaces and organisations from Monday to Friday, 24 - 28 February, and on Saturday, 1 March 2014 at participating shopping centres.
