East Rand Mall revamped

The East Rand Mall, located in the heart of Boksburg, has concluded a revamping process that has greatly expanded the centre's offering to its pool of clients and customers. As a result of its new look, the mall is valued at an estimated R2.4bn on the property market. The centre is situated in an established, well-known and well-settled area that offers diverse and convenient products and services and is very accessible at the heart of the East Rand.

Speaking on the revamping and re-launching of the mall, Petra Foord, the East Rand Mall’s GM, said that centre is looking to attract more shoppers from the region and, in turn, remain the destination of choice in the East Rand.

“By supporting the community in their retail and lifestyle demands, we are able to boost and support our local metropolitan community to stay relevant and grow our offering to assist with servicing our community’s needs,” she said.

Commenting on why the centre needed a revamp, Foord revealed that the mall needed an upgrade and a modern look, which would give it energy in a consumer market that is getting younger and more vibrant.

A more upmarket and refreshed look

“It also needed a more upmarket and refreshed look and the new look and feel will go a long way in minimising inconvenience to our customers and tenants alike, which was one of our biggest challenges. Our offering now includes more of the fashion anchors, such as Mr Price, Cotton On as well as an increased offering in the fashion stores for all children, teens, young male and female adults, and stylish upmarket gear. Alongside this, we have supported these stores with lifestyle brands for shoes, accessories and leisure choices,” explained Foord.

One of the key elements of the revamp, which will have an impact on the surrounding community, is that there will no longer be a need for people to travel far because everything they need will be on their doorsteps. With this key revelation, Foord said that the mall will see consistent growth in both foot fall and trading density.

“Our plan is to stay relevant in our times by offering what is needed with the best service and safety in place. Our offerings will stay current with the times and needs, and we look always to have a CSI community support initiative tied into our daily activities,” she added.

In conclusion, Foord said that the current leadership of the East Rand Mall understands the digital trend and is gearing up to move forward with numerous digital offerings.

“We are soon to launch our brand ambassador programme, which allows shoppers to book the personalised services of an ambassador to assist with their shopping requirements - be they taking care of your grandmother for the morning in her wheelchair, or offering retail advice on all lifestyle requirements. The digital space is here to stay and we will be adopting it more and more as we grow with our community,” she concluded.
