Over 400 children were bussed in and exposed to fantastic cricket and given the opportunity to hone their cricketing skills whilst soaking up the sun in the safe and fun-filled environment.

Albertus Kennedy, General Manager of SWD Cricket attended the festivities on Santos Beach and was thrilled at the enthusiasm portrayed by the talented children from the surrounding impoverished areas.

“The Calypso cricket program is a good product and adds a social element in a competitive environment. I was very impressed with the attendance and it built more than just cricketing skills as so many of these children were interacting and strategizing their game plans” said Kennedy.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Sporting Chance, Brad Bing said the interest of the SWD Cricket at this event will make a huge impact in the lives of all the children.

“To have the South Western Districts Cricket manager at the beach to scout out local talent has really made an impression not only to the kids, but to the cricketing community at large. Talented children have been identified, and will be slotted into appropriate coaching programs and this in itself will be a starting point for these children to hopefully one-day play for their province and country” commented Bing.

The Garden Route leg covered three of the nine beaches on the Pick n Pay Calypso Cricket Festival. Robberg Beach in Plettenberg Bay, SANParks Beach in Wilderness and Santos Beach in Mossel hosted the action before heading to the Western Cape.
