Townsend and Munier shine in WPCA 1A

UCT's Travis Townsend (135) and United's Munier Holmes (107) were the outstanding players in the WPCA 1A division this weekend.

UCT are in a strong position against Claremont after posting a first innings total of 265/4 with opening batsman Travis Townsend in sublime form scoring a superb century. His knock included 16 fours and one huge six. Claremont batted first and scored a solid 218/8 declared, with Giles Fearon (56) top scoring. UCT's opening bowler, Lotter, claimed 5/49.

The match at the Green Point Track between United and Police had the home side in the lead after a magnificent century by opening batsman Munier Holmes. Together with fellow opener Muneer Abbas, the pair put on a fantastic 151 opening partnership, which set the platform for the target of 255/6 declared. In reply Police lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for 175. For United, Dane Patterson claimed 4/37 and Abdul-Aziz Temoor 3/35.

Evenly poised

In Durbanville, the game between the home side and WPCC is evenly poised after the first innings. Both sides struggled to dominate with the bat.

The match in Bellville South between UWC and Rygersdal had the hosts with a healthy lead after the first innings. Rygersdal were dismissed for a small 127 as their batting woes continue this season. Only Darryl Barnes made a solid contribution to his team's total with 45. In reply UWC were dismissed for 192.

At the PP Smit Stadium, visitors St Augustines held the upper hand after the first day's play. Saints were dismissed for an average 130 and then skittled the home side out for 54. Luke Petersen and Donovan Ekstraal were the chief destroyers for Saints, claiming 4/10 and 4/13 respectively. Saints were struggling at the close on 59/5.
