Man United loses to Burnley
Burnley refused to let Manchester overpower them and refused to back down and it surely paid off in the end. They kept the lead until just before the break when goalkeeper, Brian Jensen, stopped the penalty of Michael Carrick which was the best opportunity Manchester had.
Manchester never held up, they kept pressing Burnley's defence but to no avail. This, added with missed chances, sunk the “Red Devils” hopes even further.
On the other side of London 2005 UEFA champions Liverpool faced off to Stoke - their “bad luck nemesis” of last season. But not last night, Spanish international Fernando Torres opened up the game by scoring his first of many goals of the Barclays campaign. New signing, Glen Johnson, slotted his first goal in the Scousers jersey making it 2- 0 to Liverpool. Then it was the “flying Dutchman's” turn pouncing onto a bumbling cross from Steven Gerrard to tap it into the back of Stoke's net.
It was not over yet; youngster David Ngog put the final nail in the coffin for Stoke making it 4 - 0 to Liverpool. Everybody doubted the Merseyside Reds for their lack lustre performance against Tottenham but not last night.
