The Parlotones fundraising concert for Kirstenbsoch
On Sunday, 8 April, 2012, The Parlotones will be playing a fundraising concert at Kirstenbosch. The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Concert will raise funds for the forthcoming Kirstenbosch Centenary in 2013.
It's hard to believe that Kirstenbosch started as a derelict farm, once owned by Cecil John Rhodes more than 100 years ago. It was proclaimed a national garden in 1913 and then the work began to create the magnificent garden we know today from the rubble. Today, Kirstenbosch is a world-renowned botanical garden, much loved by local and international visitors. With 2013 being its centenary year, plans are underway to celebrate in style.
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Concert aims to raise funds for this much anticipated and iconic year and with an extra half an hour of great music, the audience will be getting great value for money.
The Parlotones will be supported by The Ice Project - a soft rock/post-grunge band that started out in Potchefstroom.
New album in May
With a string of hits under their belt and a new album "Journey Through The Shadows " due for release in May, The Parlotones are known for their professional and polished stage performances. Twelve brand new tracks feature on the album and the audience will be hearing some of the new songs. The Parlotones will have recently returned from climbing Kilimanjaro to raise global awareness to end violence against women and children in Africa. Following the Old Mutual concert they will be preparing for a 27-city US tour.
The opening act, The Ice Project, have evolved from acoustic sounds to a full four-piece band drawing influence from a wide variety of iconic groups. Now based in Pretoria, they have shared the stage with The Parlotones and other well-known bands. They are currently preparing to record their first full-length album.
Pack your picnic basket or buy one from Silvertree Restaurant or The Kirstenbosch Tea Room and prepare for a holiday Sunday afternoon.
All money generated through ticket sales will go directly to the Kirstenbosch Centenary Fund.
