Shell to disclose fracking chemicals

Shell has confirmed that it will disclose the chemicals it intends to use when it starts hydraulic fracturing to unlock shale gas in the Karoo in a move that it intended to allay widespread fears that the process will lead to contamination of groundwater resources.

Speaking at a conference held in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Shell's upstream general manager Jan-Willem Eggink said: "Nobody will go short of fresh water because of our operations".
