The Chinese dredger is being used to build a second quay at the Port Ngqura. Top Transnet officials, including chief executive Brian Molefe flew into the city to assess the situation in the port.
The Herald reports that according to people involved in port construction, one of the four posts used to stabilise the dredger while it was working gave way. However, Transnet says it is still investigating the circumstances leading up to the sudden sinking of the dredger.
