The half-day IT security workshop is free of charge to attend, and will be delivered by the Cape Town division of OWASP (The Open Web Application Security Project); an affiliation of information security professionals and technology enthusiasts. As lead sponsor of the IT Security Workshop, VOSS will host the event at its Cape Town headquarters.
OWASP is driven by a goal to facilitate security workshops, at no cost to attendees. By sponsoring the workshop on June 17, VOSS will be supporting the association in its mission to promote a culture of free access to knowledge and expertise.
Liam Smit, IT Manager at VOSS Solutions, commented; "At VOSS, we develop ground-breaking and industry leading technology that is installed at blue chip organisations around the world. By supporting OWASP's training initiative in Cape Town, we hope to promote a thriving, self-sustaining community of technologists that share our ethics of access, freedom of information, and improvement to quality of life."
The IT Security Workshop will introduce information security concepts to the technical community in Cape Town. The focus of this training is to raise awareness of various vulnerabilities that commonly exist in web-based applications. The first part of the Workshop will be a theoretical session where the instructor will explain the concepts and discuss examples and case studies. The second part will be a practical hands-on session, where all attendees will put these concepts into practice.
To qualify for the free workshop, attendees will already be involved in technology, and will have an interest in learning the principles of information security. Places are limited, and registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.
