Learners score chance to be Confeds Cup flagbearers
Sony Ericsson partnered with Let's Play, Supersport's social responsibility initiative, and Active Education, Play Partner to Let's Play, to improve children's lives through sport. The day's event was made even more successful with the donation of R48,000 from Sony Ericsson towards the initiative.
International VIP guests, official FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup Mascot Zakumi, played a significant part in this nationwide initiative by judging the ball skills and literacy competition, held on the school's premises.
“Sport is essential to the development of our youth in South Africa,” said Sonja Shear, head of marketing for Sony Ericsson Southern Africa. “We've had an unbelievable response; and it's great to be afforded the opportunity to give back to the community.”
The flagbearer programme takes place across 80 schools located near all stadium venues in Johannesburg, Rustenburg, Bloemfontein and Pretoria. For the chance to experience this unique opportunity, learners will need to complete the captions of a soccer-themed cartoon story. The winner, as well as two finalists from the same school, will be named the Sony Ericsson Official Flagbearer winners, at one of the FIFA Confederations Cup matches in their school's area. The fourth Sony Ericsson Official Flagbearer position will go to the ball skills competition winner.
