Following an initial water donation made to the community of Aliwal North just after Christmas, the group is now sending more water to affected areas across the country. Four trucks, each containing 29,920 litres of water, are currently being dispatched. The first truck will be delivering much-needed water to the town of Senekal in the Free State while the others will go to communities in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.
The total donation is 119,680 litres of water and will be distributed to various community organisations supporting vulnerable people, such as the elderly, women and children in the affected areas.
Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets will also be selling water at cost price in areas with water shortages to help all consumers. Collection trolleys are also being made available in these stores for customers to donate water should they wish to do so.
