Uganda records the highest cases of river blindness in Africa
Kampala: With a total of 1,5million people infected, Uganda records the highest indices of river blindness out of the 30 African countries plagued by the disease that destroys the sight and skin of its victims, health authorities said on Monday.
The disease, scientifically called onchocerciasis, a disease whose vector, the black fly, breeds in fast-flowing rivers is prevalent in 27 districts in the country, along the porous borders of the landlocked East African country.
