State of the art catheterisation laboratory opened
The Western Cape Minister of Health, the Honourable Theuns Botha officially commissioned a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at a gala dinner hosted by Melomed Hospital Holdings at a gala dinner on Wednesday, 5 September 2012.
Melomed Hospital Holdings recently upgraded its service offering by launching a state of the art Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at its Melomed Bellville hospital equipped with a Siemens ARTIS ZEE ceiling mounted imaging machine.
"The decision to invest in state of the art medical equipment is never taken lightly," said Ridwaan Allie, Chief Executive Officer of Melomed Hospital Holdings.
"We have to balance the efficiencies gained with the cost of the equipment," he said.
"In the end we decided that a catheterisation laboratory was not simply a 'nice to have' facility but an essential part of the equipment necessary for delivering a comprehensive, affordable, quality healthcare service to our patients.
"We have been appointed as the Designated Service Provider by a number of medical schemes. These contracts make us the preferred supplier of a number of services. Due to our location it was important to offer our patients a comprehensive range of diagnostic services including cardio, vascular and neuro interventions which can be performed in a catheterisation laboratory.
"In order to for us to fulfil our obligations to our patients, we acknowledged that it was imperative that we acquired the necessary equipment so that we would not have to subcontract to other service providers at inflated prices.
"In addition, there is a local government initiative to invest in the Bellville City Bowl to take advantage of existing transport services and routes. Thus all our patients will have easy access to the new facility," Allie concluded.
