Honda SA recalling over 20,000 Jazz models
According to the Japanese car manufacturer, rainy driving conditions may result in water leaking down into the control mechanism, causing the system to malfunction, leaving the driver unable to open or close the window.
Under extraordinary circumstances, it is also possible for the circuit panel to overheat, melt and cause a fire.
Honda therefore wants to recall 20,035 cars to repair the factory error.
A waterproof skirting was installed in the cars in 2010, but earlier in 2013, Honda discovered the existence of a small gap that over time could lead to the recurrence of the fault.
Former Laugh-it-Off satirist Justin Nurse's daughter, Vanilla, died of smoke inhalation on her second birthday in 2009 when her parents' Honda Jazz caught fire with her in it.
Honda researched the error, and in January 2010, all cars in the Jazz series in South Africa were recalled as a precautionary measure.
