Contaminated dog food recalled

Foodcorp has recalled several of its dog food brands after testing revealed the presence of a maize toxin contamination.

The products, including Bobtail, Dogmor, Bonzo and certain dealer own brands, had to be pulled from the shelves.

Foodcorp said external testing on their finished products picked up slightly higher than normal levels of deoxynivalenol, a fungus found on maize that contains mycotoxin.

High levels of deoxynivalenol can induce vomiting and cause weight loss in animals.

"We will only release products once test results are received . from an external testing site as a final safety check before any product leaves our facility," Foodcorp said. - Shaun Smillie
