No cameras in mall toilets

Maponya Mall management in Soweto has denied that closed circuit video footage of a woman who dumped a baby was taken inside the centre's toilets.

The management released the pictures of Monday night's footage to the police. The recording shows a woman entering the toilets with a baby but leaving alone a few minutes later. The five-day-old baby boy was discovered by security guards a few minutes after he was left in the toilets.

The mall's Lebo Mokwena said: “The pictures were taken from footage captured on the passageway leading into the toilets. There are no cameras inside any of the mall's the toilets.”
