Muscadel Association Awards announced

The 2010 Muscadel Association Awards, held recently, awarded a platinum award to the 2004 Muscadel vintage from Monis, reportedly the oldest producer of fortified wines in South Africa.

Held annually by the Muscadel Association, the competition spotlights the quality of this fortified wine in South Africa.

According to its winemaker, Dirkie Christowitz, the popularity of Muscadel in South Africa is slowly starting to increase and he suggests serving it as a welcome drink or as a substitute for dessert in a chilled martini glass on crushed ice. The 2004 Monis Muscadel will retail for about R80 per 500 ml bottle.
