These open-face helmets are constructed with lightweight ABS material, have hypo-allergenic linings, weigh less than 1kg and fit into the storage compartments beneath the seat of a scooter or into a top case.
"It's advisable to replace your helmet every two years to ensure that the straps and shock absorbing material are in good condition, as the materials do slowly degrade over time," advises Trevor Woolfson, director of Vespa South Africa. A worn chinstrap could result in the helmet flying off upon impact in the event of an accident. If a helmet is bumped or dropped, it should be replaced immediately as it may have sustained hairline cracks that are not visible to the naked eye.
